View Full Version : The "view new posts" option

Dear Admin,

I noticed that the "View new posts" (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=getnew) option shows only whatever posts/threads have been written during the last one or two hours. Sometimes it only shows what was posted during the last 30 minutes only (like right now).

To avoid visiting separately each sabla, I was wandering if it is possible to view all the threads where the last new replies were posted today (meaning from this morning)?

Thanks.

I use the view new posts option whenever I come to sabla and it always shows the posts that have been posted since the last time I was on sabla. If I've been away for a day or more I get pages and pages of new posts. If I've already checked the sabla that day then I might get just one page.

I think it's an excellent feature which works perfectly.

1) The " View new posts" in the Stats page,

this is a direct link for viewing the new daily posts:

Stats: View new posts (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/search.php?action=getdaily)

----------

2) The " View new posts" in the main page.

this is a direct link for viewing the new posts since your last visit:

Main page: View new posts (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=getnew)

------------------------------

the difference is:

(1) Gets all the threads that are daily active which can be 100+ so there would be 3, 4, 5 and even 6 pages with daily active threads. And it will show them all.

(2) Gets only the new threads which have posts after your last visit.

As mux mentioned, view new posts is whenever you've last logged in.

What the administrators can do, in order to make your 'read messages' slower, they can change the "Timeout for cookies" from 1000 seconds to let's say 3000 seconds.

"This is the time in seconds that a user must remain inactive before the unread posts are reset to read."

Xpress..that should help u out. as it shows all the threads with new replies during the day. and it works just fine. :)

*many thanks to dede for reminding us of this feature, as most go to the second one which is available in the main sabla page.

Thanks Dede for the info and I guess the first option is exactly what I needed and believe it would be more helpful if put on the main page than in the statistics.

I didn't realize that the second option, which is the "view new posts", was displaying what was posted since our last visit. The problem here is that if in our previous visit we didn't check what was posted, then we will miss most probably some interesting posts or threads.

XP....exactly....I've been always using the stats view option.. its the best! :D

I was actually thinking about the same sugguestion you mentioned to have the one in the main page be the same as the stats one even have two likes... maybe?

Will take this to adminstration to see if its implementable. It should be a simple php code.

as mentioned above by mux, DD and Don... its all correct...
its nice to have a member (mux), a moderator(DD) and an admin(Don) answer this question... and all talked from experience... intresting...

anyway...

XP, the last time i visited the sabla was 30-06-03 (before today) since i use the computers at uni, all cookies are deleted once i log off... therefore when i come back online, i have to log in again...

this is why when i clicked on the link you provided i got 4 pages... i also click on DDs extra link... i got the same results... i get the same result coz i didnt visit the sabla since 30-06-03 and now that i have logged in, and did a search, both are the same...

it is possiable to add the link DD provided in the main page...

in addition, what Don mentioned has something to do with it
