Boys:
Crazy haircut with a cigarette between the lips.
A funny clothes and a funnier walk.

Girls:
A tight short with a word "Bad Girl" on their a$$es and
"69" on their tight T-shirts. God Danmn!! it feels sick.

I am really feeling so sorry for theses teenagers, especially
the girls.
But where are their parents??!!
Don't they know what 69 means?
Don't they ask their daughters what do they mean by weaing
a tight trouser with a "Bad Girl" on the *****??

Is this becoming normal nowadays?!!
And of course I'm not talking about all teenagers as some of
them are very respectful.
But I bet you'll see alot of them when you go to
Al Shatti area.

well yeah what to do? either their parents know or just wearing behind their parents' back like going to their friends' places and dress up from there. Nowadays, things are just different from yesterday and that's not an excuse but that's what happens. Actually, these days teenagers know more than ourselves. i remember when i first knew what 69 meant ohhh my god it was really embarrassing. i went to this restaurant with some friends and was given a number and it was 69 but i ddint know what it meant so everyone was like yuhuuuuuuuuu 69 and there i was like dump asking what it meant. ohhh my god cant forget that moment.

Omani teenagers are at last casting off the yoke of social repression...hurray!!!!

You're probably talking about my friends here.

They're just expressing themselves by the way they dress and with their own personal style. Ofcourse the older generation finds it "dirty" or sickening, but when you're actually one of the crowd you don't see anything wrong with it. You don't judge the person by what he/she is wearing, since they all dress the same way anyway and you look at their different personalities.

These girls and boys are old enough to know what's right and what's wrong -- and it seems like they've already made up their minds, so just let them live their lives.

Oh, the parents are around. They're just not bothered to check what their kids wear, or they do see it but they don't say anything about it because they still believe that they're "young" and "kids" and only live once and that they'll eventually change.

Yep, this is normal. Welcome to my world. :kewl:

You go Phoenix! Self-worth is not defined by wearing what your granny did!

PHOENIX! PHOENIX! PHOENIX!

I think its part of them being teenagers!!

though I dont like what they wear and I dont find it respectabvle, but I came to realise that by time they mature and get back into the society ..

its like what 70s teengers used to wear, they used to wear even tighter than whats here now, they grew and realised that what they did was wrong.

Yes we need more parents supervision, more education and more self concern about the Islamic wear. It will come with time I guess!

I'm proud to be abnormal.

Oh come on people... when it comes to a dress code I think there's nothing wrong with going a bit looney.

So what if they dye their hair according to the different shades of the rainbow? So what if they wear T-shirts that say "I'm stupid, sue me"?

It's not like generations before them were angels..... ;)

But when it comes to wearing too tight of clothes and stuff like d a m n written across their chests then they sorta have to draw the line...

Anyways, one day these teens will grow up and reminisce on how silly they were, it's not like they're gonna be like that their whole lives....

69 is a position dude... not a code... get with the programme.

As for people's personal lives... should we care what people practice?

Worry about yourself... and not others.

exactly. One thing leads to the other.......

i was gonna post some articles regarding the muslim hijab dress code but i think every muslim here knows all the details:rolleyes:

but one interesting point is:
Abdullah ibn Umar (raa) said: Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) stated: "Whoever resembles a people is one of them." (Abu Dawood)

the clothing mentioned in the first post is very similar to what british girls wear here [ both by some muslims and commenly non muslims]

majority people in the muslim world [pakistan/oman/saudi etc] seem to curse the west [america/UK] all the time but still want to live their life style -> dress like them, eat like them, talk like them, guys copy rappers, and girls copy the kafir dancers etc, etc, etc

Muslims should be just Muslims

:(

no offence bro, but that is utter selfishness. It is our right to bring misleaded people to the straight path..........i am not trying to be over dramatic...........but its true.

say if i pray 5 times a day, and a say a friend of mine likes going to disco's and does wrong, i will not sit about in my house thinking "oh well, i read my namaz i will get into paradise who cares about her ? her life etc..."
u cannot do that.........u have to bring people to sense with love and patience.

just the way my aunt brought me and my brother into islam slowly.........every teenager goes through that stage being a rebellion - true.............but only few are helped and guided by elders............

so if one wears a shirt that says "Shoot me" ..does it mean that he or she actually wants to be shot?

everyone is free to wear whatever he or she wants..as long as its not revealing. whatever is written on that shirt is none of our business really.

all we can do is look out for ourselves ,and perhaps our family , and if we see something really wrong..then an advise would do..but thats about it..and thats where our role ends.

there are much more important things in this society to be taken care of ..rather than the dress code of the teenagers. and after all they are just kids..exploring. we all went through it..and grew out of it. :)

Ok ... since you are SOO filled with love and patience ... why don't you move to Saudi Arabia ... AFTER ALL, there interpretation of Islam would equate you not to posting picture of yourself on the web (probably get you lashed only), and as for driving. You would be 'protected' from it just to name a few things.

It is so easy to preach religion especially to the young and easily influenced.

Remember as you pack your bags for Saudia or Iran that I was FILLEd ... with LOVE and PATIENCE for the purpose to 'help' and guide' you to be a better Muslim.

well for some who said that our grannies did that and wore that then they've changed their clothing because they have realised it was wrong. well i do believe that when we expereince mistakes ourselves we ought to learn more and 99% not going back to those mistakes. Yet not everything is to be experienced to know if it was right or wrong.

Another thing, we cant see these teenagers having crazy hair cut and just watch. i think parents should talk to them and advise them by telling them reasons why parents and others in the society find it wrong and mostly, they are pointedto be just street kids whose parents dont have time with them.

Unfortunetly, these teenagers think that whatever they see on TV is right and just cool. i personally think that these teens like to be said to them cool dudes.

This whole thing is silly.

You people were there, and so are our generation. Life goes on. They *myself too ;) * know what's right and what's wrong. You dont have to go on blabbing about what's right/wrong, i think they already know that. Parents are also there to support and guide, so i guess ''mind ur own business?!''

It's not like you people didn't go through this phase!! You had those huge hairdos and tight jeans. The women were in mini skirts.. etc. Now its like suddenly you've become very religious and you think other people should start from where you are now. Well you are wrong. Let people go through their own experiences, and decide which path they want to take. As for Advice? dont they get plenty of that already? If you ask me, i know whats right and whats wrong, and when i do something i know exactly what I'm doing. That's the case with all of us teens. :D

Al7amdilla, i dress properly and I was brought up in the right manner. All i was trying to point out was that people like you have gone through a lot of experiences, and you've learnt the right from the wrong, and now that you have, you are not willing to let others discover by themselves. Anyway, go on blabbin about it, nothings gonna change  Good Luck anyway!

"dress properly and I was brought up in the right manner"

well thats nice that u were one of the "lucky" ones. So u have decided to take a chill pill and sit back and relax?

"let others discover by themselves" - see this is the attitude of majority of people here. Then you all stress about the problem of abortion, early pregnancies, shame and young teenager runaways, drugs and young deaths, car accidents and rapper lookalikes who's second word in a sentence is a swear word.

"nothings gonna change " because people like you don't even try to make a change.

If me and you were so blessed to be guided to the right path from the start, do u think the story ends there?

I will explain. Us and Them

them
people who are doing wrong i.e. confused teenagers -> Allah has put them through a test, to see if they are able to control themselves against sinful acts caused by shaitaan.

us
Dont u think people like me have got the task or test to help unfortunate people like them?
When i say help, i do not mean to harrass the person with Quranic ayahs about hell but rather to befriend and see what that young person is thinking? Talking to them in a normal manner, explaining your point in a friendly way.
most of them will have expression  :6: :duh:

There is a skill in how to convey your opinion and make them rethink about theirs.....

Libellula

It's true that you should advise them, but after a while when it's totally obvious that you're not getting anywhere and they've chosen what they want to do, there's no point in repeating it over and over again.

When most people have made up their minds, that's that. You can go and preach to them but they won't listen. It'll only make them rebel even more!

You can go on and try to sway them, but if they choose not to change then there's nothing you can do about it, is there?

You cannot force your beliefs and standards on other people as much as you want to or would like to.

I don't want to preach here. I just saw something wrong and I think we all ought to try and change that. That's if you agree with me that it is something wrong in the first place.
My apologies if I offended you or anyone else.
