View Full Version : Altering a member quote => Warning !!
I Have noticed many times that some members quote what other members post and then change it or add their own comments to it I think this is a bad habit and not a good practice. An example of this behavior in this (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=13260) and you can see how Mr. qais quoted from 4EY post and add his own comment to it (I love you qais....will you marry me)
My suggestion is update the sabla rules to include the following:
Any member alter other members quote will receive a warning if he/she did it two times
What do you think of it, lets discuss the issue for a better sabla performace ?
I was kidding.
I bet you and thug0.4life cant wait to get me banned again
I'm not pointing at you, this is a general issue and that was an example to support the issue.
Iam the only one who does it
Instead of turning the thread to a chit chat, why don't you give your opinion about the suggestion.

I agree with Ice Tea's sugesstion. Qais this is not specificly for you and you will defintly wont get anything out of what you did because it was past but we want to stop this practice because its not ethical.
I agree with Ice Tea

I found it funny actually lol but i feel as long as the member doesnt abuse of then then is nothign wrong with it.
bride_soon strange to know that this is your opinion, changing other members posts is an abuse in itself. It's like copyright vilolation, if a member want to add such comments he/she can write it in his own reply and no need to change the quote. Because this will also confuse other members as they might reply based on the altered quote and cause problems between memebrs latter. And also will increase the amount of chit chat, because the discussion will turn to a fight between the two members, one will say I didn't wrote that and the other will say no you wrote it coz it's quoted and refrenced to you.
AP thanx for the support :)
its not a bad suggestion.
i dont mind it..but i say we leave it up to the member. if the member , who's quote was edited , coplains..then thats when something should be done. if not..then i dont see why we make a fuss about it..cause as u see 4 ever didnt mind what qais did..and therfore no harm was really done.
i agree with u ice tea but with following comments:
- better not to go for warning just give a notice that it is not allowed but if teh member persists in doing it then a warning can be issued.
- a notice given when it is really going to harm other members. for example in topics such as interviews there are alot of questions need to be naswered and instead of coping them some member just answer in the quote box ..

Thats a good suggestion Fahad, the member can be given a notice by PM to bring to his attention he/she is breaking a rule.

I think such cases are exceptional and can be excluded from the rule. As the intention is not to alter the quote but answer a question.
so can we say teh keyword is "HARM" .. which means a notice given if there is harm/insult to teh member..
member can edit a quote and if that is causing harm then a notice is issued and if it is perssited then a warninng is the last option.

Qais hhehe I was away come ONnnn
any ways
about this issue
guys thsoe who do that out if hummer and joke should be careful cause not every one can accept it!..and to some the word (HARM) can be very subjective ...so u might be entitled with actions that might be taken by the moderators
and hence...out of respect try and avoid such actions!
and i tend to agree with Fahad;s edited version of the suggestion

Very good observation IceTea and thanks for bring this to our attention.
It is not right for anyone to alter a quote taken from another member and I believe qais exemple is the first ever done. It seems it was done for fun and 4-eva also saw it that way, so there is no harm. This should not be repeated as it can unecessarily create conflict tomorrow among members.
I don't think a member should get a warning for altering someone else's quote, unless the changes are insulting or disrespectful.

Quote is quote. It shouldn’t be altered. Bad practice.
