Humm,
I haven’t used Compaq Presario before but I had a notebook with a fan the fan is attached to a temperature sensor so if the temperature is high it will start automatically. About the noise in the fan it is normal as the fan performance deteriorates over time.
majtheman 26-05-03, 11:28 AM hmm
Was it like this before? It may just be a wire that has got too close to the fan so the fan is hitting it, thats all, its nothing serious. The noise could be from the casing. make sure that all the screws are tight, the noise could be causedby the vibrations of the case when the fan comeson and not the fan it self.
You should also chck that the fan is working as it should, some computers have options in CMOS to check on the fan and temp.

the temperature is always normal ! whenever it get's hot i turn on the AC....but maybe cause the PC is located under the table where the air cant reach so it get's pretty hot down there ..!
But from the noise i can tell that the fan is going reallly fast!!

it started mmm....5 6 months back....but i just ignored it, i asked arround but nobody had a clue:lost:
i dont think there's a wire cause it has the normal air/fan sound....it's loud cause the fan is fast.
the screws are pretty tight i guess, i never unscrewed them or done anything!
one more thing : what's a CMOS?!:p

I guess you are talking about the power supply fan for a desktop. Your AC can't do much. If the noise starts again you can slap the back of your desk top exactly behind the power supply this should relieve it for a while. If this really bothering your, you can change the whole power supply unit, and I guess it is standard one.
If you PC is still under warranty take it back and asked for the power supply to be replaced. If you don't have the exact fan type changing the fan can be tricky.

ok....i'll try hitting the desktop and i'll see what happens...i'll get back to u then.
if it doesnt work then i'll take it back and see what they'll do
;)
thanks
Kamakazy 27-05-03, 09:35 AM a fan in a computer would go on and off depending on the temp of the CPU... if it gets too hot, the computer would shutoff or restart...
what type of casing do u have? a tower case or a flatbed case?
does your room where the computer is get very hot at times?
does the sun light hit your computer?
does your computer get good ventilation/air flow?
you might try to open up your computer and take a look at the fan to see whats wrong with it, as mentioned above, a loose wire, etc... make sure that everything is screwed in propally and tight, you could also leave the computer open for a while and make sure that it gets cool tempruture... dont leave it open the whole time or it would gather more dust... rememmber, when you close it again, make sure that there is nothing loose, or that there are any wires close to, or touching the fan, you could use some thin wires to tie a bunch of your computer wires togather...
last question, did u ever over clock your computer? make the processor work faster than it should? this causes heat... and might be why your fan runs faster...
hope that i was of help :D

ok...i'll get someone to do that for me, if i do it myself i might do something wrong:)

No, i dont think i ever tried doing that
Thanks,you've been really helpful:D
Kamakazy 29-05-03, 06:22 AM let us know how it goes Phycho
I did what u told me.......i hit the desktop whenever it goes on..but nothing happens.
i forgot to mention that it MOSTLY happens when i over-ride the computer like, having more the 4 programs on, while burning a cd,
and when the computer jams!

the most likely answer is this
If you bought the PC as a package deal the suppliers often save on certain components in order to put more power into others.
This means things like CPU coolers and PSU coolers are often of low quality.
It certainly sounds like its the PSU cooling fan and it is more than likely a cheap, noisy and inneficient fan. This is easily remedied but means you have to get inside the pc.
Sounds to me like you need a new psu. They can be expensive but on the whole you can pick up a decent one for a decent low price. There are quite a few on the market that boast silent fans for quieter running but that is not really necassary unless you want ultra quiet pc's.. Just have a look around for a decent PSU on the various internet component sites. dont know any in OMAN but www.overlclockers.com is a good one over here and probably deliver oversees.
The PSU is easy to change. just unscrews and unplugs and you are away.
There is a possiblity that its the CPU fan that is making all the noise as you said it happens when more applications are open and then it freezes so that suggests to me that the CPU is overheating and not running smoothly.
Make sure if your PC is under the table that it has plenty of room around the fans and that its air vents are not blocked.
You can buy better fans for your CPU but changing them is a little bit more complicated. Try the PSU first and see if you have any luck with that. 30 or 40 pounds should get you an ok one that wont wake the neighbours.
hope this helps.

Thanks....you really would've helped..earlier...before i opened the Desktop and cleaned the Fan....so..it was only a matter of dust and dirt :yuck:...[got that cleaned]...lool
and it turned out to be normal..i got someone to check it out:rolleyes:...the Pc was just over heating...!!
thanks anyway
PS.the fan is working just fine...after the clean up...(duhhh):p
Thursd@y 20-05-06, 05:50 PM I guess u fixed it, right?
let me tell u
the same here, noisy noisy noisy
try to open the case and use a special spray
or
u have to know your PC spec. then go to the PC shop tell them and get a new 1 or they can chnage it for u >>>>
No actually it still happens..after 3 years!! It just needs a bit of cleaning which no one is bothered to do.
What special spray are you talking about?
NiGhTFaCe 20-05-06, 06:58 PM I have a Compaq Presario, this is normal actually. Mine does the same.
