I guess today is my active day .. I have alot of Ideas to post :P
any way lets come back to the topic ..
I read in one of the websites which has general info about all countries that the litracy in oman is apporaching 80% al7amdulilah ...
Me and my friend argue about one thing .. is education in Oman is well spread .. she says that there are alot of families that are not educated and dont want to educate thier children so she supports tahta education should be compalsory and if a person dont want to send thier kids to school should pay a fine.. I agree that some are like that .. but our generation and inshallah the coming one are well educated and the issue of making this fine is not actully applicable in a socity like Oman ..mayeb going to school was in issue in 70 and maybe even early 80s , but nowadays everyone knows that if u are not educated u cnat live in a world like this and u cant find a proper job ..
just want to shre this argument with u and see what do u think ..

just keep it up, cos we really need such
valuable minds....
inside the point: well education in oman well spread..
whereever you go you will find a school, go east, west
south or north between the mountains and in the deserts
for sure you will fine schools...
about the families, i dont think this problem still exist
nowadays, it might be for higher education, which yah still there are some who dont want their girls especially to continue their higher education, but most of the people do support their by using all possible ways to be educated...

i believe in one thing about fines, the more fiens and taxes you, more problems for you and your people

Thanks to our government, by the wise leadership of his majesty the sultan
all the best Oman

hey there boys and girls,

ummm, education just give me a sec.... ... ...oh yeah, u know my mind is not clear today cause i was working all day long.

now, education has changed so much that the new generation will be very interested in educating themselves. i know some guys now who are very hungry for education. The want to get educated..but...but...if u don't have the money to get the reall education like going abroad or say kalidonia college!!! what will u do!!

on my side, my ambition is to pass all what i have from education to my brothers and sisters, like taking my brain and putting it on the table for them. but i want them as well to have more than just what i have.so this would take time.that's it from me.

I think we all agree that going to schools is no longer a big issue. I would say 95% of Omani families -or higher -have accepted that children both boys and girls should be sent to school. Schools are every where in Oman even in mountains and desert.

BUT

The mentality of most students is not “ study to gain knowledge ” which helps in building an advance state but “study to get a good job” which only means that education is a passage for something better.

The spread of education is important of course but “what we study” and the methods that are being used to deliver this education are also crucial factors to the progress mechanism.

Education should be everywhere in “institutions”, “homes”, “mosques”, “clubs” and basically wherever we go.

Parents should teach their children our customs and how they should treat other people in society. However, it wouldn't be a bad idea if there was a module in elementary stage teach children how to integrate with people......such as forming a queue, respecting others by say “thanks” “sorry”...etc....

education is not only 1+1 = 2 !!!!!!!!!!

u have a very good point .. and as u, I and Patriot said that the issue of going to school is not there anymore ..
ture that students in Oman study to pass the exam and after the exam is finished .. they forget everything .. in my opion .. this is because there is no applicable examples in what we study .. meaning ,they dont show us the real aplication of what we learn ..
I remmber when we were studying physics .. al7amdulilah our teacher was very good and used to give us example of real life .. but as students we used to not see the examples because the book did not have alot of application ..
I hope that the new basic education helps to improve that because as I know that the plan is to put more advanced teaching teqniques ..

Mawlayee His Majesty The Sultan gives the utmost priority to education in Oman.

The education of both girls and boys is given high priority in Oman. In 1970 there were only three schools with a total of 909 pupils and not more than 30 teachers. There are now 970 State schools providing education at primary, preparatory and secondary levels. During the current five-year plan, 1996-2000, a total of 226 new schools have been built. In the private sector, 11 new schools were opened in 1998, making a total of 118 private schools which are regulated by the Ministry. The Ministry has a comprehensive plan to modernise the education system to meet the needs of the 21st Century. It is planned to have 1,045 State schools by the year 2000/2001. This will enable the Ministry to dispense with the double shift system and to extend the number of hours in the classroom. The school year of 32 weeks (160 school days) will be lengthened to 36 weeks (180 days) to bring it more into line with hours of schooling in other countries. Class hours will be increased from four to six hours per day and lesson periods will be extended from 35 to 40 minutes to enable a pupil to increase the number of hours he or she spends in class during the first 10 years of education, from the present 5,693 hours to 9,600 hours.
