It was just hard 5 years to spend away from Home, family and friends... I still remember when I came to the US to
study...

Anyway... this is not my point... My point is that I thought I would get more attention or I mean care from people in D.C and I what I mean by D.C is the Cultural division..The one that is responsible about Omani students in the US.. I will tell you the truth that I didn't know my adviser until last week. I have one more month and I will be done...So, it took them 5 years to let me know that I do have adviser....That was a challenging work for them

Anyway... Last grades that they have in Oman were the one from the first year 97..... SO, they don't have anything for the last 4 years! And when you talk to them, they try to show you that they are doing you a favor or giving you a gift.. When they talk to you, you feel like they are giving you money from their own accounts...

The people in D.C know nothing about the people in Oman ...And the opposite is true.... So, you will get lost trying to get what you want !

And one more thing
What would I get after spending all these years..?
I will go to Oman and they won't even send me a letter to
say “ Good Work” or “Wish you the Best.” .. I will just be like the others............
Don't we deserve some kind of ceremony or even a tiny corner in the newspaper when we go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree with you, and in ur case it's nothing much really. I know lots of other students who've studied for over 7 years & when they're back no credits no job !!!!!

Someone with a Bsc. & one with a pHD end up having the same job. It does happen trust me! Where is the fairness!

These students are not being credited, not even a tiny bit !!

I strongly agree with you brother.Do you know that they send students to Canada for one year and after that they tell them to transfer to the USA claiming that the majors those students were sent to study are not offered in Canada!!!! So why the hell did u send them to Canada in the beginning? The answer in ambiguous. Well, this is one point.
The other point is that the students who transferred from Canada to the USA didn't find their majors at the University that the cultural division registered them in!!!
by the way, one of those students is my closest friend.
As we can see, they have done two mistakes and nobody said anything. Can you imagine how would they react if one of those students had a problem? They will not give much attention to what is going on with those students.
That's what I have for now.
PLease try to make this topic as important to the Omani students as you can, I will be glad to.

Thanks a lot for bringing up this interesting topic.

I have the same feeling as you all have. I feel that the cultural division,especially in DC, makes a lot of mistakes, but nobody questions it. Even the Ministry of the higher Education, which is supposed to be responsible for every decision that Cultural division makes, is not aware of what happened to sponsered students in the U.S.

What are the cultural division mistakes? I think you have already listed some , but let me add these few:

1. Sending you to a university that doesn't have your major.

2. Giving no information to the student about what his or major is about, and what universities have it.

3. Sending first year students to English schools that are really bad....for example, when Omani students go to an English school and realize that it is really bad, they inform the cultural division that this school is just a waste of time and money. But the cultural division insists to send more students to the same school, ignoring what the previous students told them.

4. Not giving all students their health insurance.

And if you were a good student, and your GPA is always close to 4.0, don't expect the cultural division to do any good for you. They won't even congratulate you for your good grades, nor will they thank you for your hard work.
...But if you forget to send your grades once to them, you will recieve tons of warnings in addition to cutting your salary.

This is not a problem with Omani cultural division i USA only. Rather, it a problem with majority -if not all- of omani divisions and attaches. I heard simmiler comments about the quality of the jop that offeard by the attache in London. The apsance of the role of the Higher Education Ministery might bethe reason of such ignorance.

I was thinking about bringing this topic long time ago..But now i had enough from Everyone in their...
I don't know if People in D.C deserve to be there or not...
actually non of my business..But let me tell you these two stories..So, you can decide for yourself.

1. I went to Oman in the summer of 99..The only thing they had in my file was the papers from The Language school..When i was taking english classes...The Guy...Maybe you know him....Was talking to me as he is the Boss... He was blaming me and everything...He didn't have time to talk to me because he was busy...So, i spent 3 2 years in college and they didn't even have any idea..They thought that i was still taking english classes for 3 years...


2. Recenlty; they stopped my scholarship..The reason that i was supposed to graduate last year in May2000. Let me tell you this.. The truth is that i didn't get to my major until 1999...It took two years to finish the major..And the school sent the Cultural Division the exception letter in Fall of 1999...And the Ministry got one copy too..
Now they stop the money for this month telling me that i was suppose to be done last year...So, they didn't know that until now..I have 2 monre months to finish ....They guys in D.C told me that they want to make it offically to send me the Money....But i just have one question:

1. It wasn't offically to send me the money for the last 9 months... !!!!!!!!! So, whose money they were sending me..!!!! And why They kept the health Insurance!!!!!!!!

..When i tried to talk to the Guy who is in charge...They told me that he is in not their...I quess he is in Oman ... The Big Eid Is coming .....
So, i have to wait until they get the decision from Oman ..........Until that time...I just have $35.00 to live on............

What the cultural division did for you is so rediculous. It is so shame that they behave this way. I don't think they will stop doing these stupid careless acts unless the Ministry of Higher education stopped them.. :( :(

This is what happened to me ..
I wanted a major and choose a uni.
and BY MISTAKE , they mixed my papers with
someone Elses .. So I travel and Find my self in a Different
uni and with a Different major - they cant do anything about it , I allready payed they fees and I lost
one semester of my studying course now I am Late for my
graduation " Major Depressing Issue " - but .. hopeFully
we would all Complain about it and see that , no such actions are done by such a Proffetional Place !

They've received many complaints,but none of them gives a shit.Those people of cultural division think that they're giving us a big favor when they sent us to study here.Ok,but finally we'll work for our country not for Pakistan.........or Bangladish.

I agree with you that we are all gonna work finally in Oman, but after a really hard work...
The mistakes which the cultural division makes are so careless, and they will affect the study of students badly..There should be something done to stop the cultural division from repeating their mistakes. And this thing should be of course from the Ministry of Higher education..
And if the Ministry of Higher Education recieved some complaints from students about their Cultural division, why nothing have changed????? Don't they have any one who cares about scholarship students...

as far as I know,ministers in Oman don't want anyone to be smart coz they wanna keep their positions and not to let anybody takes them.........that's a big shame,isn't it.then let's prove the opposite,we got to work hard in spite of every thing and every difficulties.

wallah we no3am be Ministry of higher education... they been imposing great efforts to help our students out..... I don't care what everyone else says, it's your responsability to follow up and track your education once you get a way from home..... i beleive they don't send 10 years old kids out...... enough complaining and get used to tasting life both ways...... if everything goes smooth and easy then say bye to our hopes and dreams.....
