Well .. I know this topic was discussed before .. but thought of bringin it back again ..

my question is mainly adressed to guys ..
what do they prefer to wear, a dishdasha or jeans and t-shirts?

Why do you like them that way?

Girls could say what they prefer to see guys wearing .. and they could also say if they prefer to wear an abya or any Omani traditional clothes or just wear something casual? (am not talking about religion here .. I know what girls are supposed to wear)

I wear a dishdasha in the house. I wear a suit in the office. I wear jeans and a shirt in the pub or when I'm out with my kids. I never wear shorts unless I'm at the pool (don't want to offend any conservatice people with my little knees).

I like to wear leather jeans, jacket, gloves and boots and a fibreglass helmet, because it means I'm going to ride my bike - something I enjoy a lot.

i don't live in Oman so i don't wear dishdasha at all now.
when i'm in Oman it all depends on the occasion and the place. i like wearing both dishdasha and casual wear even though i find dishdash boring cause everybody else is wearing the same thing and 90% the same colour.

I like wearing dishdasha but since iam emarati I have to wear guitra and igal....I never liked it because i have to keep my neck stiff all the time so I wear a cap with my dishdasha if iam going to the supermarket or a friend's house.
Iam living in singapore so I usually wear long shorts( 3 quarter shorts) and a t-shirt or short sleeves buttoned shirts

I used to wear pants all the time except for work but for the past couple of years i've been wearing dishdasha all the time. White with mu9ar at work and colored with kumma in the evening. Haven't worn pants in Oman in a very long time. However when I do wear pants I'm always very informal. Torn jeans or khaki slacks with t-shirts or linen shirts. I do wear shorts in the summer and I don't worry about offending anyone's sensibilities. Don't mind scaring people with my hairy legs.

well i think guys should wear dishdashas as much as possible simply because it is the national dress but there are places that i feel it would be better for men to wear trousers such as the beach just to make life easy.

As for girls the national dress well that i would wear for occasions so formal..although in the interia the women wear that every day which i find really nice.

I am not used to it as such so i am usually dress in Abaya..but i sometimes would go out without it..and i'd wear either trousers or a skirt with a top and of course my scarf.

I would prefere to see guys in Dishdasha, i think they look cvery nice in it..
but again it depends on the places that they are going...

I have never worn Omani traditional dresses.. ... but Abbaya is very good.. It makes my life easier.. so I go for it.. with my scarf..
most of the time i dress up casual but again I have to put abbaya on.. makes me feel more comfortable..

For guys, I like them in stylish Trousers, Jeans,T-shirt even 3 quarters, they look amazing. Dishdasha are not bad they look neat also but I hate those who don't wear vest underneath or those with wearing coloured trousers underneath.

As for me I like to be formal at workplace, so I'm always in suits and boots only time to time I'm informal. On weekend I wear whatever junk is available in my closet,

I like guys in pants and shirt better. But the dishdasha is cute too.......hmm.....I suppose it depends on the guy. His looks and all.

As for myself; it's abaya when I go out. Under it and at all other times I'm always clad in jeans. :D

Couldn't live without jeans. :kewl:

I always wear pants under my abaya, and colored scarf epically when I’m with 4-ever-young coz if I dear wear all black should would get upset heehhehehhe..

Anyways I prefer to get dressed up without the abaya in summer its just too hot, I always wear long jackets or I dress up in the traditional Palestinian dress.

I really like how guys look in dishdasha's and Mosar's i think it give them the Hiba and sha'7siya.. espically with the li7ya..

As an Omani, I wear dishdasha almost all the time,
I like it. There are some occasions where I have to
wear something else e.g. picnic, beach, playing
football :D
I think Omani guys should stick to dishdasha it's one
of our traditions.

I think men should wear what is comfortable for them & in the same time it is suitable 4 them, cauz some of them look funny in dishdasha & others look funny in jeans...etc, & the place they r going to is very important too if they r going to school or work ( not all places sure) it is necessary to wear dishdasha & when they r going to the beatch it is not comfortable to wear dishdasha between the sand & the water:p ....so it is all depends on many things.

About girls I think they can wear what ever they like also, but under their Abayas & not stritch abayas ofcourse;) .

Fat blokes look better in dishdasha.

Maybe I should get a nice one, and wear it outside the house too... would someone show me how to tie the musaar nicely?

08-04-03, 09:54 AM
I hate to see men wearing short pants.. disgusting.. but if they're longer then it'd be ok.. so long as there's a need for it.. like working on eid meat or helping in sth..

I respect those who wear Omani dishdashas.. but not anyone though..

how's hat?! some men don't care to apply the prophetic sunnah that they should NEVER be musbeleen.. that is, their dishdashas shouldn't be longer than their feet.. donno why lots of men ignore this thing.. am sure they know that their prayer isn't accepted when they're musbeleen.. hadana Allah wa 'eyyahum.. ameen

abt girls.. as long as their clothes are not tight and well covering them then no harm on it.. I prefer it if they wear abayas.. :)

Nice Topic ;)

About me and clothes, as a Jordanian Dude, I don't like Dishdasha's, I hate wearing them on schools, but I have to :fire:, and I hate wearing this Kumma thing... Oh God

What I usually wear is my BBall clothes when I want to go to play in a nice BBall game...
When going out, I wear Baggy jeans and normal T-Shirts...
At home, Shorts...
:D

Neena
09-04-03, 05:19 PM
Well .....dishdasha is for sure more suitable as it is the traditional clothing here in oman for guys. But there are places where dishdasha does not suite where pants are more preferable.

I love seeing a man wearing dishdasha... for some reason I feel ppl respect a guy with dishdasha more than pants.... /

I got used to wearing abaaya ,.... so yes I love wearing abay no matter what unless i am heading to a wedding .. or a party ... .

Thats great, I love to see guys wearing sporty clothing and baggy jeans. I also think it looks good to see guys wearing their traditional clothing since here in the US, theres no such thing as traditional since so many cultures are here.

As for the girls here, I know that you wear traditional clothing in your country, but do u care to share your opinion on what clothing styles you like that are not traditional (jeans, shoes, etc.)?

The only traditional clothing would be the abaya; a long black dress you wear over your clothes when you go out. In the house some women wear those long loose colourful dresses.

Personally, I practicaly LIVE in jeans and match it up with a little top. When it comes to shoes I prefer small heeled sandals, the nicely designed ones (can't go flat makes me feel like I'm not wearing shoes, and too high heels make me look like a telephone pole). :kewl:

Oh , good one AP….

Sure ..for me….. Dishdash or Dih-dasha as we call it, Stands on top.
Dishdash with kimah is what usually I like to wear here in Oman..
Musar ( turben) ..rarly …mmmm..in Eids or 3azeema ( invitation) or 3aza ( conveying message of condolence)..or..or

Outside Oman used to like sporty ones ..as T-shirts..etc.
For my work …it is the coverall.. which I like  & I have to wear too :sorry:

I think we should keep wearing things whatever is close to our habits.

been open mined doesn't mean I go for prayer with some fantasy jeans..

It's better for you to get rid of the tight jeans (American style). Becaue even if a girl is wearing "abaya" when she walks her jeans will appear from the front and this will make guys look at her (i.e getting attracted), then she will complain why they look at me !

i never really bothered about what guys wear,, but since i am not in uae anymore, i really really miss seeeing guys in dishadasha and ghutra, they loook so handsome in them.

whereas for girls, i havent made up my mind yet about the 3abaya,, sometimes i wear it , and sometimes i dont,, depending on the weather, and the company i am going to hang out with,, anyway, as long as i am in islamic hijab, 3abaya or not ,, it doesnt matter.

If a man is tall and slim, a dishdasha looks nice on him... while the same can't be said for a short and fat man.

I do agree that dishdashas give a certain elegance if well worn, especially if the man has a turban on his head. My hubby ties his beautifully and it gives him that kind of "Prince of Arabia" look  :)

However, I think when an Omani goes to the beach, near a pool or for certain parties, it is is better for him to wear something else than a dishdasha. There is nothing wrong as a nice jeans with a t-shirt or shirt, or a suit for a more formal occasion.

At the end, it is not who wears what, but how they wear it...

There is one place I don't like to see men wearing a dishdasha and that is in a hospital under a white coat.... Itttt isss a total messss!!! And looks very unprofessional.... I don't know medical schools in Oman doesn't teach its students the importance of looking good and tidy... I mean it reduces patient trust! The dishdasha can be acceptable in such setting but without the white coat!
