Iraqi militia have opened fire on up to 2,000 civilians leaving the southern city of Basra, according to British military officials.
They said that UK forces were returning fire after paramilitaries turned mortars and machine guns on the residents of Iraq's second city.

Fedayeen Saddam militia are reported to be dressing up in civilian clothing and forcing real civilians to march in front of them to hinder the gallant Coalition liberators.

I think you will find that Shamsery is currently living in Basra and therefore able to give us his first hand account of events.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have described reports that Iraqi forces had fired on civilians as lies and propaganda, despite Saddam's history of killing Iraq civilians, including children, in Halabja and the Marshes.

I am just awaiting final confirmation from Shamsery that he is, in fact, living in Basra.
