mandazyah do you have mousephobia, if not then next time take a mouse with you. This will make the cat busy with the mouse :D
DeSerTDesTroYeR 19-03-03, 04:19 PM hmm.....no there are alot of people with different types of phobias' you shouldnt be emmbaressed at all.... all you can do is try to over come it... and relax..as much as you can...

it's not silly at all. i know many who are afraid of cats! this can be cured easily by trying to approach a little kitten and playing with it..even from a lil distance. and slowly slowly by getting closer to it till u're not afraid at all.
i have an insect phobia. i hate any kind of umm..bugs and if one gets on me i panic so bad..u really dont want to see me in that situation. how i lived in malaysia for a year and a half..in a forrest..dont ask me!! :D .

it's a normal thing.. lots of girls are afraid of cats.. I can even say most of them.. donn but I don't think it's a big problem that causes much embarrassment.. just ignore it.. and ignore what other ppl think..

X-press 23-03-03, 12:20 AM mandazi ya, you shouldn't over worry about being scared of cats, as I met a lots of Omani (adults as well as kids) who were very afraid of cats. The same reaction is seen for dogs too.
I think it scares you because you are not used to see cats often. The moment you realize that they are not dangerous and on the contrary, that they can be so friendly, your fear will slowly diminished.
I think it might be difficult to solve your problem alone. If you want to do something to avoid these feelings, try to talk to someone you know who has a cat. Maybe that person can invite you several times at her place just for you to have slow contact with this animal. Your friend should slowly show you and reassure you that there is no danger. The more you will get use to it around you, the more your fear will disappear.
I have many phobias, like around lizards, caterpillars and worms.
I am claustrophobic, meaning that I can't stand to feel confine in a small place or in an over crowded place. Sometimes my husband can simply put gently his arm around my neck and I feel that I am chocking!....so you are not the only one ;)
Achluophobia- Fear of darkness...... I don't like dark..
Agoraphobia- Fear of open spaces or of being in crowded, public places like markets. Fear of leaving a safe place. ..... I feel more secured being at home or very calm environments.....
Arachnephobia or Arachnophobia- Fear of spiders... I hate them... I always have nightmares of them..
.
Astraphobia or Astrapophobia- Fear of thunder and lightning... I can't even begin to start...
Obesophobia- Fear of gaining weight.(Pocrescophobia)..

I am happy that you brought up this fear selma. Many people around the world suffer from what is called Social phobia, which is a bit similar to the one you mentioned above.
They are completely terrify at the idea of even stepping out of their house and being in a public place. This phobia doesn't allow them to live a normal life, and simple things like going to work, going to the grocery store, visiting someone...etc become a real nightmare.
When fobias become severe and have terrible side effects on someone personnal life, only special medical treatment and long therapy via psychologists can cure such problems. This is why I once opened a thread called Where are they? (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11174) when it comes to Oman.
Fantasia 24-03-03, 06:36 AM I get the phobia of being alone in an elevator. It gives me the goosebumps just thinking what if one day I will be alone inside the elevator and a good looking man would put a pass on me. Then realizing the guy is a psycho. Or, what if the elevator gets stuck and no one will be there to call for help.
That's why I always prefer to use the stairs if I can, or, if I have to be in an elevator, I have to be with someone or in a group.
XP,
Thanx..
I really don't know what comes over me when i am around crowd places.. I get very scared.. I feel like I am not going to survive/hurt in that crowd.. or something strange might happen..
Many negative thoughts keep on circling in my mind... in the end I dont feel secured...
u know what i got the same problem its not that i'm scared but i dont feel comfortable in crowded places i even dont enjoy my time when i go some where crowded

selma, is this happening even if you know the people in the crowd (like a party, a wedding) or do you feel scared only when it is a public crowd with strangers (like a shopping center, a public gathering)?
In each cases, what do you have to say to yourself to stop feeling like this or do you simply leave the crowd for a more deserted place?
XP,
When it comes to weddings.. I am fine with it... with people that I know.. otherwise I would feel bored/ uncomfortable..
When it comes too big mixed parties crowd.. I can't stand it..
when it comes to Public Crowds I get very scared to be mixed up with them.. for instance during the festival at the adhaiba beach.. I went there once and it was on the last day.. My friend came to pickme up, when we reached there I made her leave early... we did not stay there for more than half an hour...
I like going to the Malls only in the mornings where there is no crowd..

Yes I would leave the crowd to some other place where I feel calm and I enjoy it.
There are times when I am in crowd places, I tell my self that nothing is going to happen.. but then I just cant stand the sight of the crowd.. it makes me feel dizzy and I find a place to sit.. until we finished..
If I go to the exhibition then I stick behind my sis or cousin's back!

This is an interesting topic as I believe that every person have a kind of phobia..
About me .. I dint find it's name from RA list.. I have Blood and injury phobia .. I cant stand watching somone injured even if it was in a movie when I KNOW its not true..its just that I cant watch some of the movies I just dont enjoy the story coz most of the time my hands are covering my view its just comes automaticly..
I sometimes faint when I see lots of bloods.. I remember that it happend to me twice in a biology class.. when when the teacher was trying to show us a rabit origens once and a bird the other time.. so I always be away from this..
Even when I went to test my blood type (though just little of blood comes out) I got dizzy and cant stand for around 5 min.
Well and Alhamdulilah for everything we should accept whatever Allah gave us..

Though I can stand crowd, like you selma I often feel dizzy when they are too many people around me. One thing which I notice helps me a lot is not to focus on the people around, especially when many of them stare at you!!. So, while walking try to focus on one object (expl: the floor tiles, the groceries on the shelves etc..) and avoid looking right and left at the people walking around you.
When it comes to you being scared, maybe it can help if before entering a crowd you keep telling yourself that nothing will happen to you and that these people are also around strangers to each other. Don't be alone. Try to go out with someone you feel confortable and if this can reassure you keep your mobile in your hand.
However, it is important that you don't automatically say to yourself that you will be scared if you are in a crowd, that you will have to find a place to sit otherwise you will not be okay. Try to think positive and say that they are many girls like you who feel the same, often out of shyness, but that at the end nothing wrong will happen.

Big Mo, you're a classic! You had me in stitches.
But about your question, she doesn't fear me, and that's a big ask for a young lass.
I have a fear of heights...and a fear of being stuck on a island with stupid people. Stupidity freightens the hell out of me.

hahaha.
Well, it is an island...the only mistake you made is that there are no stupid people here. They got left behind in the UK, more than 200 years ago.
I thought you, a man of knowledge, would have known that the only reason people stole back then was to win a ticket OUT of there, and to be sent here to the paradise of the earth.
Who in their right mind would want to stay where it rains at least 70% of the year????:duh:
X-Press,
You are right.. We always have to think positive and be optimistic
Thanks for those advices.:)
