Of course, there are converts to and from Islam.. People have the right to choose their religion

Allah says in the Qur'an:
"There is no compulsion in religion. Righteousness is now distinct from error. He who disbelieves in the idol and believes in Allah has grasped the firmest tie that will never break. Allah is Hearing, Knowing" Chapter of Al-Baqara (2:256)

(never breaking tie is for those who truely and comprehensively believe and submit to Allah, otherwise anything might lead them off the streight line. And Alalh knows best)

It is fair to say here that higher birth rate in dominant Muslim countries is also a factor of high growth of Islam. Nevertheless, conversions constitute an important influence.
