View Full Version : Would love to know from you all!!
I am just curious on something... how many of you out there has Khatam reading the Quran?!! And how many of you that would read and than come in a year or few months later and don;t remember where they last stopped and than repeat reading from the very start?! And those who would read, for how long would it be for.. like 30 min's 15 min's 1 hour etc..?!!
Let me hear from you all and lets see how our dear members are doing in their readings :)
PS" i chose to put this in general sabla as I find it to be a normal topic and its nothing to do with religion"
Shinoda LP 05-03-03, 09:00 AM Being a non-muslim, I have not read the Quran at all! But, trust me ... I would love to! But, since I have no heads and tails clue about how to go about doing it ... I have rested that motive!
Any thoughts?
neena why do you have to embarrass us like this!!!!!!
i feel ashamed on stating the number of times i have khatam the holy book.
thanks for the reminder.

i can help you out my dear friend.. if you are interested I can get you a translated Qura'n in English .. just let me know :)
I've khatamed the quran 3 times.....I KNOW it's not enough, I KNOW. :weep:
I usually fall into the habbit of reading like 20 minutes worth daily (unless it's ramadan, then more of course)
Lately though I've been really slow, and missing too many days. :(

once you get your copy of the Quran, you can start anywhere you want to.. thats because Quran isnt like a story that has a start and and ending.. so there is no restriction as to where you should start and where you should end.. every sura is distinct and is not chronologically related to the one before it... you can jusmp between one chapter and another and it wont affect the flow of your reading...
My personal suggestion would be that you start with the Meccan chapters of the Quran... because they mainly talk about the essence of Islam.. and have more to do with the beliefs rather than the practices (sharee'a laws, etc)..
to find out the Meccan surah, look at the very last page of teh Quran you'll find an index that will guide you as to which is Meccan and which is Madani.. (Maccan are those that were revealed before the big emigration to Madina)...
you can also start with the small chapters at the very end of the Quran.. and then move on to bigger ones... which are mostly at the begining of the book..
either way you choose, the very very first thing I would sugest you read is the very first one (surat Al-Fatiha).. its the first surah in the whole quran, and its the sura we start our prayers with... so I think it should be your starting point...
Now sorry for diverting from the topic, but I couldnt skip this question :D
Back to Neens Question:

Honestly this question made me ashamed of myself... During Ramadhan I would usually make one khitma.. but in other months, it takes a while to get it done.. its a pitty we tend to find plenty of time reading other books, but can harldy find time reading the Qura.. really sad...
I think 20 minutes a day is reasonable and shouldnt be too much to accomplish.. all you need is discipline...

Dark Project 05-03-03, 09:00 PM Done it dozens of times .
What amazes me is that each time I read it I realize how ignorant Iam and how far away I am from the teaching of God.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what does the word "Khatam" means?..."entirely"?
Dark Project 05-03-03, 10:46 PM XP Khatam means reading the whole quran from Al Fatiha to the last surah's.
Its good to see few replies from the members.
My intention was not to make you feel bad or guilty.. and if that what my question gave majority of you than its good to know that all of you are being honest with yourselfs.
I would still love to hear from more members ....
express as project said - it means readin the holy quran from the start to the end .... ... :)

Same here :weep:
Well hmm i allways try my best to read atleast a page from the Holy book daily..And if i cant then suerly I listin to quraan very often, whenever am at my room or doing things that i dont need to think with..
And at this moment of time, We here a group of girls do an every friday gathering and memorise however we can...Its a very good chance for me to revise what i have in mind and to start the new chapters that i missed..
To be true it comes a period of time when I dont read continously! subhan alla Shay6an is with us every single minute!
You know I will be honest here as well. there were times that I would read for the sake of reading so that i could have a lot of chapters done ... you know somehow trying to be fast in khatem the quran.
Then it will come a phase where I will completely stop ... and when i go back to reading i just totaly forget where I stopped before so i will go all over again reapting reading from the very scratch.
Thats not only it - but while i was reading I wouldn;t really understand what I am reading .... and when I come to think back about it i realize how mch of a waste of time i have been doing.
Now I started reading th quran .. but this time in a very slow way where when I read I try to understand the message that god is telling us. I came to really find out so many questions I had were answerd through my reading. And the quran is defently like a book with all the answers one would want to know about. As well its like a story about so many things that happend during the anbeeya and all.... . Al hamdulilla aktempt reading the quran like on the first of Muharam around fajeer and it really felt good. Now i am reading it all over again ... as i would want to understand things much better and the more u read the more u really know ... and you can as well memorise.
the pitty part is the I realized as well that there are suras that we took during school yet can;t even memorise them.. thats why I promised my self that I would want to start doing that memorising as much as I can .
Agree with you neena .. it is not matter how much you read
what is matter is ...what you understand from what you read..
Reading Quran it is not difficult task to ask .. but what reflect what is in Quran in our daily behavior … yah after you read Quran did you try to understand what we are doing in this life and where want to go and did we prepare for that or not ..
assalamu 3alaykum all,
thanx Neena :)
abt myself, before coming to the university I wouldn't miss reading 2 pages or more before sleeping..
now, if I can't read these pages at least i won't miss reading sorat ad-dukhan at night and sorat Yaseen and/or al-Mulak after fajr prayer.. and sorat al-kahf on Thursdays or Fridays..
I know am doing too bad regarding reading.. but it's worse when it comes to memorizing.. I will recommend a wonderful idea to u all to help u memorizing.. I could memorize some of the sorahs this way.. make a competition at home between ur brothers and sisters and share them.. and set a prize for the winners.. not only financial prizes.. sth like going in a picnic.. u'd be motivated to do it.. and believe u me.. it lasts if u keep on reviewing what u have memorized..
best luck all :)
