Thanks for reminding us Arby and the Book Exhibition organised last year was fantastic! I bought one encyclopedia in english and one in arabic for my kids, as well as loads of very interesting religious books.

I hope this year the exhibition will be as good and if yes, it is a must see ;)

Why don't we recommend books (Arabic/English) here?!

I haven't got the names of books I liked with me now :(, so who wants to make a start?!

Great idea, ST..

If anyone is interested in Islamic phylosophy, you can look for books by محمد قطب (Mohammed Qutb)...
here are some of his books which sound interesting:

شبهات حول الاسلام (Suspicions round Islam)
العلمانيون و الاسلام (The secular and Islam)
منهج التربية الاسلامية (The Islamic education curriculum)
دراسات في النفس الانسانية (studies on the human soul)
جاهلية القرن العشرين (The 20th cebtury pagansim)
مذاهب فكرية معاصرة (Contemprary ??? ideologies)

mind my translation:D

I dont think any of the boks have been published in English..

What about you ST?! Anything new from the writer 3abd Al-Ra7man Muneef ;) ?!

Bimmi ,,,It would be great of you tell us something about these books :)

مذاهب فكرية معاصرة (Contemprary phelosical ideologies) <-- I think !

Qutb talks about several ideologies in his book. After each idiology he talks about, he compares it with Islam and shows how Islam is more justices in all of the idioligies he talked about.

The introduction chapters talk about the depravation (فساد) of the christian scholars and how this caused the people in europe to totaly deny religion in thier lifes , but only consider it a (habit) - if i can say- that they practice rarely. (This is after the French revolution). He also tlaks in this chapter about the role of the jews in corrupting moral consitutions in europe.

He then talks about (Democratic ) الرأس مالية أو الديموقراطية) and then about socialism, then about several other idiologies.

A very interesting book really, contains lots of ideas, lots of information as well.
Other than the idologies Qutb tends to make you think about lots of things when u read his books.

Note : When he says europe , he means the West.
Another Note: Mind my english !

Such A great thread.. And such a great apportunity for all Omanies to get some useful books.

There is a new book that am looking for and it's called "Hatred Kingdom" an english one..by Dore gold if am not mistaken!

It took my attention because of the fauls information it contains about Islam..Its mainly directed to KSA and its connection with the recent events ... My curiousty is to find how far their thoughts have been gone too..

I also want to find the latest of one of my favorite writers.. Mus6afa Mahmoud..I dont know whats new in there and it wouldve been nice to know..

I have been to the book exhibition and seriously I loved it ..

I couldnt stop my self from buying and buying books :)

ok what I bought (all are arabic books :p ) :

Tears in my wedding day (Qmasha Al Alyaan): its short stories book written by a saudi writer called Qmasha al alyan .. her style is amazing .. I was so attached to this book and want to finish it soon .. really I recomment her stories to whoever love reading short stories (in arabic ofcourse)

The marraige and divorce train (rajaa al saleh):
It is a compilation of true stories written by this syrian writer. Did not read it yet so not sure about her style.

A research done to discuss Athiesim and thier basic idolgies. WHat I liked in the book that ot has a wide range of topic. Not that I read it yet, but the content page looks intresting.

Oman's Economic Idology. A book published by ministry of communication. Just wanted to have a general idea bout my country's economic activities.

Zinoiost leaders protocpls. I heard about this protocols from the famous tv series (faris bila jawad). Wanted to see what they are talking about.

Sounds and speach science. Bought this book for my dearest sister Silent tunes, thought maybe she would be intrested to read about her profission in arabic :)

so until now. I finished the first book. I asked my sis to get more of (Qmasha Al Alyan ) books .. coz I seriously loved it and I recommend it to those who love short stories.

Well if I start talking about Books i will not finish :s

So let me start with the important ones first;

1) The Way to Jerusalm (الطريق الى بيت المقدس)
A very important book by Dr. Jamal Abdulhadi. It talks about the history of Palestine from Adam until 1992. It tells us how Palestine was lost and how we can return it back (Deffinatly by Jihad as you might guess)

2) The History of Jeruslm and Palestine (تاريخ القدس و فلسطين)
A very important audio collection by the well known Dr. Tareq Mohammed Suwaidan.
This is an A MUST collection... I really cannot say anything about it cause i wouldnt be able to show its real value. I really recommend this one. It is a new publication that Dr. Tariq talks about Jenin masacre that happend in April 2002.
Really touchhing stories .

Great! I was expecting more readers here though :)

Arabian Princess, Mashallah.. you can keep all those for me to read.
1)Tears in my wedding day (Qmasha Al Alyaan), sounds interesting. What is it all about?!

2)Thanks alot dear for getting me the book of Sounds and speech sciences in arabic, I'm sure I'll need it for my future career to get a general knowledge of the terms used in Arabic, so thanks again and again, what a sweet sister i've got ;)

Guwantanamist, great collection you've got there, we surely need to have a deeper knowledge of the history of Palestine.
I wanted to read a book that would bunch up a great deal of the world's (Palestine/Israel in particular) history but in a simplified version, the audio collection from your explanation sounds attractive and the best choice!

I bought a medical book i needed
But guys guess what
In an Omani book shope that book costed me 11 RO
and in another book shop (gulf)..the same book..no difference in anything !!! was sold for 8 RO???

and thats the case for most of the books i wanted to buy!
the difference is always 4-6 RO!!!!!!! WHY!!!

people went and bought alot of books from that other Gulf bookshope till they finished the stock! so i had no choice but to buy the expensive one!!!

sometimes we have to go to UAE to buy such books with cheaper prices!!!!!! such a shame!

Ha! DD you think it was crowded outside? You should have come INSIDE. We couldn't even move, everyone was squashed against eachother. What's worse is that they made it mixed (boys & gals). :duh:

Anyway, did anybody buy the book Don't Be Sad? لا تحزن
I bought the english translation, it is such an eye opener. If you don't have it, take my advice : it's a must read!

I've read bits and pieces of this book (in arabic), and I found it amazing. It makes you raise your self-esteem and have a view about yourself in comparison to others who are in tragic situations.. Such a wonderful book!

Great choice out there RA..I read it all but in arabic..I actually recomended it for a friend of mine but ........
The author is A'aedh al-qarani..One of my favorite lecturer as well.
And Silent_tunes i agree 100% with you that this book really makes you calm and makes you feel that life is not at all about Sadness but love in gods protection.

Thats why I hate going to any sort of Exhibition especially if it is mixed . Because I consider that to be like " FREE TOUCH"

no matter how much you may try to avoid ppl but u will always get touched ... and that really drives me nuts.

Yes (Dont Be Sad) is a great book, and it is definatly an A mUST READ one.

3) What did the world lose by the deterioration od Muslims
(ماذا خسر العالم بانحطاط المسلمين)
Abu AlHassan Al-Nadawi (Indian Muslim)

This is a great book that we should have in the shelfs of our libraries (but we should read it first!).
The book was originally written in Arabic (I think its the first book AlNadawi writes in arabic).

4) Our Contemporary Issues
(واقعنا المعاصر)
Mohammed Qutb
This is also a very nice book ,,,, You will find it in the first shop to your right, 2nd row from the left.
Good analysis of our contemporary issues and what should be done to overcome our sad situation.

We continue with books since today is the last day of the exabition....

5) Poison Wind
(رياح السموم) Riyadh Elrayyis
This book have been published after the 2nd gulf war. It talks about the situation of the region after the war.
Several other books came under similar names for the writer
The north wind
The east wind
The south wind

The importance of (POison Wind) is arising due to the unstable situation that is happening to the region. People keep asking what exactly happened 12 years ago ?
This books answers the question in detail. It also has good interpitation of the situation at that time.
This book might have already finished from the stock in the exsibition, but if you got a copy then i advise you go for it .. you wont regret it !

Guwanta.. please do continue with your list of books.. we're following..

Azraq.. if you're using Interner Explorer, Go to View ---> Encoding ---> and choose Arabic.. inshalla u'll be able to view Arabic characters..

Here's an interesting book that I baught just few hours ago:

Politics in the Middle East by Elie Kedourie

here;s the caption at the back of the book:

"Events in the Middle East have prompted many questions concerning the conflict between Islam and European States which have, historically, been seen as a military and political challenge. WHy has ideological politics triumphed in the Middle East? Why have attempts to form constitutional governments repeatedly failed in Islamic states?"

I should start on it some time soon.. So I cant give any evaluations yet..

There was this book that I glanced from a bookshop, I regret not having another look at it..
It was called "What went wrong?", I can't remember by whom. The thing I know is that it discusses the power of the Arabic Muslim countries and how/why/when this power gradually diminished!

Has anyone ever heard of this book?
