The explosion was a refueling accident - perhaps a spark ignited fuel on the barge, or some knucklehead was smoking a cigarette.

The nightclub fire was a tragedy caused ENTIRELY by greed and stupidity of the nightclub owner. By law, he needed an inspection and permit to allow pyrotechnics (fireworks), which he did not seek. The band set off fireworks inside the building - a REALLY REALLY stupid thing - which started a quickly-spreading fire on the highly combustible materials directly above where they set the fireworks off.

DUMB DUMB DUMB.

Accidents happen. A barge ran into the dock and spilled it's fuel.

Staten Island cannot possibly store enough fuel to effect oil prices - it's just a refueling station for local watercraft...

Oil facility burns on Staten Island
NEW YORK (AP) — An explosion rocked an oil storage facility at the edge of Staten Island on Friday, killing one worker and sending black smoke and flames hundreds of feet into the air. Authorities said there were no indications of terrorism. "There is absolutely no evidence and no reason this think at this moment that this is anything other than a tragic accident."
