what do you people think of our Local prisons and jails!
Do you think its fair to have a modifide prisons..Like providing it with T.v's and to make it be in a very good condition!
What about Rehabilitation! Do you think a person who does a mistake like murdering or drug dealing or robbering or any other stuf can be rehabilitated OR those people are to be considered strongly insane and cannot be fixed! i mean in term of mentality..

Do you think punishments should be settled stably or it should differ from a case to another!

well if they keep it as a relaxed room ........ i mean put tv , air conditioning and a god carpet ......... also give them nice meals then every body love to go to this place so they make crimes just to be jailed and win the place ...........
so i think they have to bge more striket they have to make things which make them stop doing all that crimes .......... and be nice with ppl ..........
in uk jailed ppl be punished by doing some works like painting .....:duh: .......... once my hostmother called me while i was in my room just to see a teenage who was 18 yrs old .......... she said that this has stolen sth from sb house so he is jailed and now he is working , but this is not his job this is a punishement .......... that means they work without salary .............:duh: .........

I think punishments should be given on the degree of the offence committed and also on possible medical grounds.

A shizophrenic (pardon the spelling mistake) is a mentally ill person who is capable of hurting himself and others around him/her when high on the effects. If such a person murders someone, he/she can't be given a life sentence or a murder sentence. Since he/she can be cured or atleast live a healthy life later on.

Where as, there are other murderers who murder just for the thrill of it. Serial Killers et al of the fame of Jack the ripper, Sam and so-so.

About the condition of the jails ... I have not seen any Jails in Oman, so I have no clues about the conditions there. But, some sort of entertainment provided for the prisoners (in a big jail) is not a bad idea. It's implemented in almost all parts of the world.

Since the weather is not that pleasant in this country for almost 5 months I think an AC is not a bad idea, but I disapprove the TV its nothing worth it, I think they should have a vast book library, let them learn and read this is what this society is missing.

As far as i know ,,the prisoners in ( alrumais) have to do some work over there including ,,7'araf na7'il,,and and such things,,which are goog things to learn !!:wink:

I heard that human rights group which visited alrumais ,,is not happy about it !!!
and that's why they are working on the central prison !!

the community work that maha is referring to is not a bad idea espacially for light crimes and teenagers. if someone commit crime against anybody it's a crime against the whole community and therefore should give back to the community.
as for prison facilities i would only insist on stuff that would change a person. things like a library or a workshop to learn some kind skill.

What is the concept of Prison?
Simple, it's to deprive you from your freedom of movement and to live in a shell and that by itself is a killer.

Now there is no harm of having TV or sports activities or even nice meal.

But the physiologically to know you are under someone else’s mercy and you are being punished and have to serve certain time is not acceptable by any Human.

I've heard that the condition of the jail here in OMAN is very poor. My dad witnissed that for himself, since he is a lawyer etc.
I think that an AC should be provided and a clean room too. You also cant expect prisoners to starve, so a decent meal should be provided. About the TV, perhaps they want to know whats going on in the world, so a news channel at least should be allowed.
Ummm....yea thats about it i guess!

It's not easy for someone to change their mentality but its also not impossible. With the help of qualified professionals it can be done. And i think that you cant just put a criminal back in the streets after he had done his time because after sitting around with a bunch of criminals, the mentality is bound to be messed up. Anyway, they should have rehabilitation centres here in oman with qualified psychologists.

But ofcourse you change once you go in prison ..Look at the prisons in the Advance countries .. They have almost everything even some countries wives are allowed to visit their husbands in private for 1 hour.
This ofcourse will avoid the you know what !!! Homosexuality and rape in prison so as we hear .
Some prisons have seminars and education and some prisoners have the right to study and have high qualifications ..
You dont want to have someone coming out of the prison and goes back to the street with no new image or education .Its a place for correcting people.

Not only that ...
They have to teach them certain kind of work so once they are out they should be able to find work .
