Can anyone tell me what is the effect of this new Census? In my opinion its just a waste of time, the other day one of them came to my fathers place and I was there, so we had this sitting out side in the garden so I told the gentleman to take a seat. I thought this would take long man! So he asked me 3 questions

1. Name of the owner of the house.
2. How many people live in it including the help.
3. The Telephone number?

What kid of useless census is this? Is this all about knowing how many people live in Oman and that’s it? Why waste too much time?

Insed of asking how many people go to school, what are your qualifications if you’re a graduate, what major did you take.. etc.

At least you should know how many educated people are there.. That’s one of the examples.

Don't be in a hurry, maybe they have their own plan to do things and you can't just say it's a waste of time without haveing a big picture about what are they planing to do. In other words don't jump into conclusions, if you are curious to know you should have asked the guy to tell you more about their plan.

You mean it has not yet even started? then who was that guy? i saw him coming in with a tage on his shirt and i even read his name!!!

but if there are 292 days left for it, then thats next year isen't it?

The census is starting on march!!!
Maybe the website is not updated but I read the advertising for it long time back and the plan is for it to start in march .. maybe they are just counting the houses first!!
I remmber last time when we had the census, we were given stickers to put infront of the hosue, with a number and all.. scince that did not happen yet, it means that there is still time till the census starts. Lets not jump into conclusions now and wait and see after thier work is done and after that evaluate it!

If 292 days left then it means it will start next year and they are just doing preparation statistics, so I believe they will come again to ask same questions and they see if number of people living in the house changed for example. So don't worry you will be counted in Oman population and maybe by that time you will be having your first child :)

I just asked around and peolpe were saying that it will start sept this year .. so definatly this is just the preilimary planning :)

but what are the things that you think should be asked to people during thsi poll thing? what should it inculde?

they have a full form to fill in .. the number of children, thier education and thier work not sure about teh income.

I remmber this vaguly from last census. Dont know what exactly they will have here.

i was told by one of the ones who did the planning questionnaires that it will take 10 days only from the start of december. they are still at the planning stage. i m sure they will include all sorts on questions and information as they wont do it for maybe another 10years.

this yeas one will be better than the last as it has a better planning and its importance has been stressed everywhere!

In USA, a census is taken every 10 years. every household in America gets a mailing. most households get a short form, maybe 3 pages. some (randomly selected) households get a very detailed form to fill out (I've gotten one once). Also there are interviewers that roam around the country trying to count the migrant population and the homeless.

I think it's a very good step, i would encourage it with all means..
I can't think of any drawback the census might have!

I think universaly a census should be done every 10 years. Our last census was made in 1993 so it is time for it now.

I used to enjoy the last one espeically that my aunt was in it ans she use dot talk to us about it. I think its an intresting experience and if anyone have the time and the ability to volnteer fo it ti would be great.
