Though this topic is somewhat related to religion, I chose to post it in here as its seemingly an issue that we come across on daily bases..

Every now and then we keep recieving alerts (either thru email or in forums like sabla) about websites that propagate false information about Islam.. we are often asked to forward the sites to the people in out lists so that they become aware of such websites..

what do you think is a better way of dealing with such alerts.. ?

there are usualy two responses:

-Either you do forward the site to your friends and ask them to forward it and so on..

OR

-Ignore the alert and delete it from your inbox..

what do you usually do and why?

I usually go for the second choice "Ignore the alert".. I'll give my reasons later.

I delete it without reading all the msg ,,

I can't see the purpose of forwarding it ,, ??!!!

I usually ignore it...

I think spreading it would do more harm than good!
advertising for them in other words!

to be honest..i rarely ready such forwards..and so you would never find me forwarding anything!! silly people who take the time to create such websites..or even an email!

Just now I recieved a forward email from a friend with the title "Beware".. again, it had links to anti-Islamic websites..

As Evilio/navy-boy suggested I think its best not to forward such websites for a simple reason.. in the world of the Internet it doesnt take time to click on the URL.. a few seconds and ur already vsitng the website, whcih increases the hit counts of the site.. and an increased number of visitors a website gains increases its popularity...so what we've actually done is assisted the popularity of what we originally intended to fight..

so, by applying our common sense: if you don't want people to visit a site, just don't tell them about it!! we can infact make such sites diminish by leaving them alone.. untill their counters freeze...

BUT.. if there is a wel established site (smthing like CNN/BBc ) it would then make sense to protest against them, and ask them to correct any mistakes.. but for most of the sites wihc are made by attention seekers I believe we should leave them alone.. allow these sites to die of neglect..the less attention gievn to them the faster they will die!!

Does anyone have an opposite/diferent opinion?!
