Thanks for the English site, I do read the Arabic site from time to time but unfortunatelly my Arabic typing is so bad. This new site is going to serve those students stydying aborad with no Arabic keyboards or browsers...
Hey guys, what about a society for those who have studies/still styding abroad? I would like to start one for those who are studying or have graduated from the U.K. Any ideas? any helpers?!
Saeed, speak to you soon insha Allah...
U May guess who this is, but shosh, don't say my name http://www.omania.net/evip/ubb/smile.gif<BR>
Zooooooz 03-06-00, 11:58 PM hello guys,
i agree with our friend here to make a society for U.K.'s Omani students. You don't know how did we suffered we came to the uk for the first time. New country, New culutre and new people to deal with. I think this will help the new students who come to study in the uk. Maybe some people says that this will help them to be more independent on their selves but i think this has another effect on their studies. Imagine that they have to look for the gas supplier and to register for it and this thing on the other different takes a lot of time which effect the students. I hope this socitey will be helpful to us and to the new student who will come to study here in the uk.. many thanx...
i got some news that a formal socity will be established. i'll talk with them to provide more information, and we might make this site the official site for it.
Bristol_99 05-06-00, 07:46 AM Salams Saeed...
This is me again...thanks for the good news but where did u get it from and where is it based, who is responsible for it? U can call me to give me those info..
As for the other friend (Zoooooz), there are many things we can talk about, discus and may be solved. I graduated last year from the U.K., now I am here in Oman working though I do miss many things about the U.K. I know some of you out there hated the U.K. but as for me there are things I liked, things I hated about it, overall I must say it was an experience and it indeed has changed me to a better independent, conscientious person. There is a lot to talk about, experiences vary from a person (or a group) to another, sometimes it depends on the place they are, the course they are studying, how much they get involved with the British society around them and so on....
I now hand over the microphone to others to talk,

salam all
Just wanted to say that there r some mini-societies of the omani students at their universities all around the UK .. to establish a major society we need only to join these MINIs with a head office to organise and to arrange the activities needed ...
thanks for ur time
and may god bless us all

what it seems as an end...might be a new start

Bristol_99 10-06-00, 07:25 AM Salams All,
Thanx to those who responded to my message and sorry for not replying earlier, been a little busy..
Well, here a few replies...
1. To those who suggested that we should have a society for all those Omanis studying abroad. That is not a bad idea at all, but I tried to limit this society since there are already 100's in the UK alone. Those people have been exposed to almost the same stuff, and there are many more things that we could share and discuss. For instance, the Rule of the Cultural Attache in London, problems to do with the adapting to the British live style/people, tips on how to use ur pocket money well and save some so that u can travel to Europe at cheap costs...etc. I myself have a few questions I would like to hear the points of view of some of those who have studied or graduated from the U.K.
My another hope is to get something running from here in Oman, something like an Alumni, i.e. anyone who graudated from the U.K. could join then we can arrange for some activities and discussions. It's said that people who have been to the same country/culture are like-minded and have a lot to talk about, and that is what I am trying to do here. Trust me when u have practically lived in a county for so long you may sometimes come back home with a more open-minded personality, something positive, but then you strugle in finding people who look at things the same you do. (btw, am I making sense here, does any of you understand what I am tranna say? http://www.omania.net/evip/ubb/smile.gif ).
Why can't people who studied in other countries establish their own societies to start with and let it grow, like those in the USA or Malaysia..etc. then hopefully societies can meet up and may be have compitions or things like that. What do you guys say? http://www.omania.net/evip/ubb/smile.gif
2. The other reply by Guest, I know there are already "mini" societies around the U.K. but the problem is this only happens where there are many Omani's at one university, like in Glasgow and Leeds. In my case that could not happened coz I was 1 out of 2 undergrads at my University http://www.omania.net/evip/ubb/frown.gif. So it was a little hard for us to feel like an Omani for long enough. The other problem is, as I said above, I am trying to get something running from here in Oman, so that may mean 'Graduates' but present students are also welcome coz they will be graduates one day too. Btw, I graduated last year, I had tough time with studies but I enjoyed my life as a student (see what I mean? http://www.omania.net/evip/ubb/smile.gif )
Anyways, I am gonna stop waffeling now, time to hand the microphone to someone else. I would love to hear from some U.K. graduates too, C'mon fellas http://www.omania.net/evip/ubb/smile.gif

shrewed 11-06-00, 04:15 AM Dear colleague,
A lot of work has been done to complete a databse of all UK gradutes over the last years. Please talk to Mr. Colin Hepburn or Mrs. Wendy Jordan from the British Council and leave your name and telephone number. We will get back to you as soon as something formal is set up. Furthermore, the British Council and other organizations host several events for UK graduates or those who spent one year full time study in the UK. If you leave your name and telephone number along with some data on your degree and university we will definitely have you involved. The Omani British Graduate Alumni formalisation has been in progress for a while. We are looking at the best legal way to have set up.
I would agree with you about the UK in terms things we liked and others we hated. However, it was a place of good memory and where we went as young students to come back as graduate professionals.
Take care and cut down on Cella Black there is no blind date nor surprises in Oman.
