Globalization Danger by "John Galt"

"Globalization comes in numerous forms, but can be generally defined as the many overlapping networks of interdependence between nations. In other words, this construct describes the trend toward a singular world culture where countries become absolutely dependent on each other. Such a concept is visible in many areas, not the least of which is economic interdependence"

Environmental Dangers of Globalization

It has also effect on the global environment like the danger of global warming, Ozon layer, acid rain, green house effect, etc. And below is a report from United Nation Environment Programme:

"Globalization has disastrous effects on the environment throughout the world. As smaller countries, particularly those smaller countries who have relatively underdeveloped economies, struggle to keep up with the such superpowers as the United States, they will very likely resort to stripping their environmental resources in order to provide some marketable commodity to the world economy. Such finite resources as oil, timber, fisheries, and minerals may be completely used up after a period of intense harvesting, leaving the environment ravaged. These effects are being seen in numerous areas today, not the least of which is fish scarcity in United States fishing grounds. Eventually, we can expect a strong positive correlation between globalization and environmental destruction"

commercial dangers of Globalization

"However, an even more real threat exists: globalization damages developing economies throughout the world. As these economies begin to rely more on the United States in free trade and economic relations, they must also begin to mirror the economies of the United States and other Western powers. The failing economies of North Korea and Myanmar provide cautionary tales of the economic destruction that ensues when a country chooses “not to play the U.S.’s game"

Globalization is undemocratic

"Globalization is also inherently undemocratic. As this dressed, these “more important” nations have far more bargaining power in getting such needs addressed than a smaller country, such as Denmark, would have. In essence, they can tailor world policy to meet their desires! Any relationship where the needs of some are arbitrarily given priority over the needs of others is antidemocratic. Therefore, it can be said that globalization, to the extent that it places the interests of larger and more developed countries ahead of smaller and less-powerful ones".

Controls Over Danger Diseases

"In sub-Saharan Africa, for instance, infectious diseases (especially AIDS) and parasitic diseases (especially Malaria) cause 53% of all deaths between ages 15 and 44. In addition to current health assistance, biomedical support would seem to hold out the possibility of considerable gains"

OBL Threaten Globalization

The End of Globalization book by "Harlod James": Lessons from the Great Depression

"Unlike the 1930s, nobody today was challenging global finacial orthodoxy. But since Ben Laden destroyed the World Trade Center, Argentina has collapsed like in the 1930s, Brazil is on the path to renege its debt just like in 1931, many scandals have shaken Corporate America, stocks have fallen to after-September 11 levels"

What is your opinion about this issue and the drawbacks of globalization ?

Impressive... Ice Tea, this is an excellent topic to discuss! I think Bimi has discussed it previously but only from 'food' aspect of it... so I hope from the different topics you opened here in relation to 'Globalization.. it will trigger people to discuss it or reflect their opinoin from different aspects!

Ok, so here is what I think, who ever brought the idea of globalisation thought how can we help other nations e.g. especially the poor countries such as Africa. The idea is that each country which has an abundance of certain primary material to become the independent producer of that specific material. However, as much as that 'sounds' good ... infact it may not be as good ... and let me give an example:

Zimbawa let say for example would become the only producer of gold..! This will give it a great income in order to improve the country's economy in other aspects... However, there are other negative sides to it.. it will be expected to bring it to a very high standard which might compromise the income...It will also compromise the income of other countries which have a reasonable income from it. It may also depleted the gold resources of Zimbawa.

The above is an example and it is not factual... I think there are so many things to think about ... may be globalization could be applied in certain aspects but not in everything as there could be alot of negativity to it! Let us see what others think.
