View Full Version : My Art Work
X-press 14-01-03, 10:16 PM I hesitated to show my art work which I have done during my time in College and this for different raisons, but decided today to still post few pieces as it is the "Art Sabla Day".
I hesitated to show them, not only because it was done quite a while ago, but mainly because at that time the computer was not yet introduced and we had to do litterally everything manually. The same work done today and edited on a pc would be certainly more refined and more complete.
X-press 14-01-03, 10:18 PM My first piece was done entirely manually on a white board with just the use of a ink pencil:
Shahrazad 14-01-03, 11:05 PM X-press, this piece of art work is incredible, I never knew you were an artist :)
I can't wait to see the rest, keep them coming..
DeSerTDesTroYeR 15-01-03, 12:18 AM Mashallah.....which camera you used to take that picture..with....should be those old black and white ones isnt it..
what?.. ..you say you drew this!!....Mashallah..really :D its amazing!!!....... ~ Didnt realized how artistic you were!!..~
And you've been hiding it all this time....:duh: ......hmm....do you sell your drawings..:eyes:
and how many do you have.??...and how long until we see the next one..if there is something coming up??..
Bimzoori 15-01-03, 12:23 AM really?!
never knew you're into drawing!
so, is the piece an emulation of a real photo of a person? or is it out of your imagination?
I prefer manual pieces of art than computer modified ones actually!
waiting to see more of your work.. :)
Arabian Princess 15-01-03, 12:11 PM Exxy,
I want an appointment with you to draw me and my husband !!!
Seriously .. you could take this as an occupation .. it is marvlous!!!
:eyes: it's amazing!!! i cant beleive you drew that!! the lines are so wel drawn i can even see the wrinkles on his face!! Mashallah!!
we want to see more of your work!!
VERY WELL DONE!!:color:
X-press 15-01-03, 02:23 PM Thanks and I am blushing...this was done many years ago and I based myself from a picture but remember modifying it so the man could look older.
Dede, true at the time I took a picture of this drawing as a memory, I used a simple "student" camera...nothing professional. The other pieces that I will show you were also shot with the same camera, so sorry for the bad quality. The original are too big to fit my scanner.
Arby, thanks for asking me to draw a portrait of you and your husband, but my hand need serious warming as I didn't draw for ages! Maybe if I restart this hobby and regain my ability to draw, I will do it for you :)
I particularly like the way I draw the hat. I think the lines are quite refined and they give a good idea of the details. At that time, as I was a student, I remember particularly linking to draw with pencil or ink, like seen in this first attachment. It took me many days to complete a piece and I am not sure if I have so much patience now...
Will post a second piece this afternoon. :color:
That's a fantastic drawing exy. Really impressive mashallah. You should draw as often as possible! You really are an artist.
Show us more please.:D
X-press 15-01-03, 03:48 PM I managed to find my first piece under the dust and scan it for you. You can have a better idea of the ink strokes:
X-press 15-01-03, 04:00 PM I think this second work was one of my most successful one.
The theme given by my teacher was to draw any animal or insect...but playing an instrument. It is quite a peculiar subject, but this is what art is after all...just fruit of our imagination ;)
I want you to guess which medium (artistic tool) I used here:
4-ever-young 15-01-03, 04:13 PM Wow Xpress so u were hidding ur talent...naughty naughty...i am very impressed by your work...and i look forward to seeing more of it!
Bimzoori 15-01-03, 04:48 PM x-press I am honestly amazed.. :eyes:
mashaAllah..
ok.. you must have used chalk on a black paper in the insect portrait.. correct?!
Nice drwaings X-P, do you still draw up to now ?
The last one looks like a grasshopper :p
DeSerTDesTroYeR 15-01-03, 06:23 PM :) mashallah...such ....awesome drawings!!....and i can see why you like that hat!!..its really coooool...
the bug one...hehehe...imaginative too!!...i dont think you saw fly and took a picture of that.....
how did you draw it?....and for how long...(and what was he playing :p)
yeah..i would like to know how long did each drawing take to draw!! they're very detailed which maked them looks really good!!
X-press 16-01-03, 04:16 PM To answer your questions...
IceTea, I unfortunately stopped drawing for several years now due to other personal commitments and interests. And as I said earlier, with time it seems I have less patience to sit for hours and create something. However, I do hope that I will be able in the future to restart this great hobby.
Dede, I can't recall exactly how long it took me, but usually each design will take several days, as I was taking other subjects of studies. I remember that I didn't know the details of how a bee's face looks like from close-up and had to make some research for it. As the title says, it is playing clarinet ;)
Bimmi, you are the only one who tried to guess which tools I used to draw the bee and said: "you must have used chalk on a black paper in the insect portrait.. correct?!"
It is not chalk, as chalk is usually very thick, no matter the color, and it is nearly impossible to draw details with such a medium. Chalk is excellent when we want to draw silhouette or rough portrait.
My assignement was quite difficult and challenging as I had to use a board completely covered with a thin layer of black ink. I had to create an insect playing an instrument and this without creating previously a pencil sketch on the ink, as it couldn't show itself on it.
The technique was to scratch the black ink just enough to let the white board underneath show. Once scratched, the mark was permanent and couldn't be corrected.
X-press 16-01-03, 04:26 PM This design is not really my style in a sense of artistic creation, but our assignement was simply to draw a bird. It was easy and I choose a baby duck.
Again, try to find out which tools I used to draw it.
DeSerTDesTroYeR 16-01-03, 04:27 PM mashallah!...this makes sound even more complex!!....really impressive..:) and now i reallllllllly understand what you mean with patience...:)
very nice duck you have there!! , but it's quite difficult to know what u used to draw it , as this is a scan!! ;)
there are clear signs of the use of some sort of pen ( probably the same as the one u used for the other two) and then painted over it with hmmm eiter oil or water paint!! not sure!! or probably something else i dont even know about!! lol
X-press 17-01-03, 12:20 AM http://www.prismacolor.com/images/thick-lead.JPG
You are not very far Boy-I and I thank you for your participation. For the duck drawing, I simply used colored pencil and black ink. To my opinion, one the best mark of colored pencils is called "Prisma Color" (http://www.prismacolor.com/) and I only used them.
X-press 17-01-03, 12:33 AM This picture no.4 is also different and the theme was to portray the life of an ancient artist.
I chose the great 19th century italian pianist "Giuseppe Verdi".
Unfortunately, the picture I took then turned out to be darker than the original composition. As the frame is too big to fit my scanner, I will still try to scan part of it for the following post.
Again try to find out which medium I used to make this piece.
X-press 17-01-03, 12:40 AM I am amazed now how by just a click of a button, I can find all the information needed about Verdi and here is for instance one site dedicated to him==>Giuseppe Verdi (http://www.r-ds.com/verdiana.htm). In the early 1990, the internet was not existant and I had to run from one library to another to find the documentation needed for such work.
Here is a close up made with my actual scan:
Bimzoori 17-01-03, 05:50 AM another nice piece of work..
hmm.. I cant decide for sure what paints u used..
for the man's beard u might have used water paints.. am i right?! maybe the background using wax?? :lost:
what is the actual size of the portait?
Shahrazad 17-01-03, 04:14 PM Mashallah Impressive!
You are what they call a 'dark horse' I am not really sure of the term, but they use for a person whose talented but keeps his talents hidden..
So you've studied art?!
DeSerTDesTroYeR 17-01-03, 04:22 PM oooh....where is the real duck!..:D .....mashallah....such a big duck....very nice...and the colours going all around makes it look wonderful...
...........................
the verdi one.........another stunning art work... mashallah........hmmm what did u use...hmmm...... cant tell :sorry:
crayons..:D
mashallah.. fantastic.. i hope you dont stop cause it shows that you are gifted, and it would be a shame to waste such a gift!! ;)
what you used.. ? i guess the same as what you used to draw the duck!! no sure!
el7ilwa 18-01-03, 12:37 PM I love your work X-press soooo much, actually I has a cosin who draw in the same way but in pencil & she is so talent like u...She got the country prise 4 her drawing...So I think X-press u gonna have a cuccesful future to be an artist if u tried:wink: Just think about that dear:) .
Navy_boy 18-01-03, 02:16 PM I really can't hide my feelings,,,it is just yr works are wounderful ,Very nice imagination u got ,, really wanna see more ,,
good use for the pencil...:D
X-press 18-01-03, 02:18 PM Thanks you all for your encouragement and only time will allow me in the future to start creating again...inshallah it will come back.
For the Picture No.4, I used a mixure of paper collage and colored pencils. As I said earlier, If at that time, I had access to the internet and knew how to used graphic software I would have been able to create something better.
Silent tune, I like your comment about me being a "dark horse". Would it be fun to know everything about someone in one go?...better keep some surprises and show them as time passes ;) And to answer your questions, yes I did study visual art and took several classes as a student.
X-press 18-01-03, 02:25 PM I can't really recall what was the theme behind Picture no.5, but I do remember that it was a practise for a particular technique. Try to find which one.
For whatever raison, I did concentrate more on the women gloves then,...if I had to redo it, I would rather work on the face:
Mama Sabla!
You are full of surprises! WOW! That's all I can say :)
Miss Naughty 18-01-03, 04:09 PM NO NO NO.. i cant believe it .. all of it looks fantastic..

X-press 19-01-03, 10:24 PM I am blushing more and more...thank you for your kind comments and you truly encourage me to by a drawing pad and draw again...I will, I promise :)
The picture No.5 was rather easy, as I took an actual picture and put a thin layer of thinner on it. Once put up side down, with the help of a pencil I pressed the parts I wanted to be print. Once done, I draw again on top of the portrait and voila! :)
PICTURE NO.6 is also a different techinque which I particularly enjoyed. It was all done manually and I will try my best to find out how I can do something similar on a pc, using multy layers.
I am sorry as I can only post a picture taken from my original design:
