View Full Version : Mobile Phones with a Digital Camera
X-press 13-01-03, 01:59 PM http://www.nokia.com/pics/phones/phone_models/7650_mainpage_s1.jpg
It seems we can forget about cameras, and in a way about pc, with the recent introduction of mobile phones with built in digital cameras.
I just bought the new nokia 7650 (http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,1522,,00.html?orig=/phones/7650/index.html) (with includes digital camera, multimedia messaging features, and a color display) and I am very happy about it, even tought the image on the screen is displayed at a wide angle.
It seems that soon we will be able to take snapshots on our mobile phone and view them, plus edit them on our TV.
1) What do you think of this revolution in the mobile phone industry and will you give up your "old" mobiles for the new high-tech ones?
2) Do you think such mobiles with camera included should be banned from islamic countries, as it is currently done in Saudi Arabia?
Arabian Princess 13-01-03, 02:07 PM Intresting topic Exxy
I really love this phone .. and planing to make it my next phone when I decide to get rid of my current Nokia Phone.
The reason I like it is its conviency. I mean many time I wished I brought my camera with me .. well I dont go out without my mobile so my camera will always be with me!!!
I just want to know more about its features, how many pic it holds, how can you download the phots and all that. Since u have it exxy, maybe you could explain it more.
I dont think it should be banned. The harm that the mobile could do is simmiler to the harm a camera could do. Banning something would not create an educated and resonsible citzen!!
Muscati 13-01-03, 02:35 PM Since I had started this very same topic on a competing forum a few months ago, I'm going to cut and paste the reply I had over there:
Myself I see no need for buying a phonecam. I have a digital camera which I don't use very often. If I ever needed to take digital pictures I'd always go for the digital camera. The pictures are crystal clear. These phonecams, the pictures they take are grainy and unusable. The only use they have is if the network supported them, and then you'd be able to send pictures in SMS. But as it is right now there is no support in the network. Even worse these phonecams cannont be connected to a PC easily for transferring the pictures. Instead of going for simple connections such as USB they have infra red and data cable connections only.
I don't see the fear that women have of these phones. Why can't someone take pictures with a normal camera and scan them for use on the net? Or what about normal digital cameras? Some of them are unbelievably tiny these days. Much tinier than any of the phonecams. There are cameras in all weddings. Women wear skimpy clothes and dance. Most never complain that the weddings are being video taped. Do they think that only women watch these tapes?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to buy a phone with a digital camera take my advice and wait a few months. By March Nokia, Samsung, Siemens and Motorola will have smaller phones that have built in cameras. This 7650 is too bulky a phone to use. Another choice would be to buy a Nokia 6610 with the add-on camera which looks like part of the headphone.
Whatever you buy, don't expect clear pictures. The picture quality is quite bad. It's only good for viewing on the phone. If you transfer the pics to a PC you'll find that they are too dark and grainy.

Arby, I am myself a nokia person and all my mobile phones where all from that brand. I never, ever had any problem with any of them and unfortunately had to buy the latest one... just to go along with the new technology. The latest nokia is always better than the previous one, in a sense that it offers more features :)
I am not yet fully familiar with all the features the new nokia 7650 offers as I just purchased it, but I already noticed that it is like a mini pc, where you can put all your phone contacts in folders, which themselves have many options. You can access the net, send instant messages and voice messages and voice tags, plus more... I also love the choices of ringing tones and the fact that I can have up to 9 speed dial numbes.
As for the amount of pictures, I don't know how many pictures we can take, but I think recalling the salesman mentioning around 60+. What is nice is that you have different options and can take your pictures with different pixels. The higher the pixels, the less amount of pics you can take...the lower the pixels than you can take more but the quality is not as good.

As max said, you can download the pics via an infrared cable, after installing a program given by the nokia representant. I will have to do it to see how good is the quality of the pictures on the pc. max, why do you say that phonecam's pictures are unusable? I am a bit worried about the infrared system, as I would have prefer a direct connection from my phone to my pc. I will have to try to see the result.
Navy_boy 13-01-03, 09:12 PM what is wrong with them ,,,? to be banned
My self I feel frustrated, at college the guys take pictures of the girls! I mean who would notice, its like they are making a phone call but you never know when they take a snap of you and god knows what’s next! I my self don’t really fancy them I personally like small phones, I have to admit that this one is light but the size is just too big! It would take lots of space in my handbag.
I’m quite satisfied with my Samsung T100.
wouldnt want to change it for a Nokia

well...no...if i'm feeling comfortable with my mobile and didnt find anything in it wrong...then why change..because of little more features....to me its not worth it. But again....if i liked my phone but was looking forward for new things ..then what it provides..then for sure...i'll go for the latest....
X-press said: 2) Do you think such mobiles with camera included should be banned from islamic countries, as it is currently done in Saudi Arabia?
Mux: made a good point..that anyone can carry a camera...and take pictures...especially those small ones which cant be noticed easily....soo its really not a good point to ban them just because of that..
In another had...i would agree....it will be more relevent..as you have your mobile..and how convenient to take a pic...of anyone in the same time...
every new technology....has lots of advantages.... but again there will always be some disadvantages along with it.
So the keyword will always remain to be...morals.....
Quick Silver 14-01-03, 12:30 AM Cell phone industry reached the stagnation point where it's hard to innovate anymore. Camera phones are the new annovation scheme every cell phone producer is heading for now. If you are to buy one ask for the number of colors the camera phone is able to produce. I been told Samsung have more than 30,000 colors which output a very clear picture. Nokia have 16,000 colors, while Sony Ericosn only 256 colors. (information supplied by a guy working on a cell phone booth in a mall :D )
Well am waiting for the 7250 mobile from nokia.... it should be around by the next month or so.
Lighter, advanced, colour, camers........ etc
most important..... can put it in my pocket :p
Well it's true that the main reson for having a mobile is to talk and thats already available in ur already owned one!
But some ppl are eager for advanced tech ones, i like new technology and these stuff.
About banning them!
Hell no!..... some might say that it might be misused as some1 indicated above. But hey cameras are now so small that can be put in finger nails!!
I my self have one which look like a torch...and its video recording too!
So i think this reason for banning is not enough!
Arabian Princess 24-03-03, 12:17 PM how do you find your phone so far exxy??
X-press 24-03-03, 08:26 PM Until now I have no problem with it Arby and I am quite happy.
However, to be honest I rarely take pictures with it as I think the quality is not the same than the "old fashioned" camera...meaning non digital ones. It is nice to just store them knowing that you took a moment which you would have miss if you didn't have a camera with you.
It might also sound unbelievable, but though I bought the infrared wire, I never tried to download the pictures from my phone to my pc :(...after what mux said, and from what I see on my nokia screen, I doubt the final result is great...but again we have to try to know :)
What I like about the nokia 7650 is that it is like a mini computer and we can arrange the names in different files and there are different options too.
As an advise Arby, I think it will be nice to wait for the new nokia 7250 which Evilio mentioned, as it is supposed to have the same features with the advantage that the phone will be twice smaller.
Arabian Princess 25-03-03, 09:28 AM yah Exxy .. I think I will wait for that .. but when will it be out??
Muscati 25-03-03, 09:54 AM Most people who got the 7650 have sold it. The battery drains very quickly, the phone is bulky, the picture quality sux and there's still no Arabic support.
I know people who switched to the Sony Ericsson P800 but even that one has a long list of shortages and drawbacks.
The Nokia 7250 is out now and is sold for anywhere between 170 and 190 rials depending on where you buy it from. It also has drawbacks. It has a built in camera which you can use to take pictures, but there's nothing you can do with those pics on the phone. You can't even program the phone to flash the person's picture when they call you. It doesn't make sense to me, if all I wanted was to take pictures I'd buy a camera. It doesn't make sense to have an integrated camera on your phone if you can't do stuff with the pics on the phone itself.
DeSerTDesTroYeR 25-03-03, 01:52 PM i think mux is very reasonable..and i cant agree less with him.....but most probably the upcoming models...will be enchanced with such features....but again..would you stay waiting..for go for another one...
ther is no zoom and the resolution is crap.

He he he he u made me laugh:gap: ....not even in your dream bro & u can ask your siss, your mum or your wife if u r married about that. But I still think it is very bad thing it should be banned from our country.

I don't think such things r available to every body like the mobile phone plus the way u r catching your mobile make it difficult to the other to know if he is checking his MSGs or taking photos, while catching a pen & rise it in front of ppl is noticable......well still I don't like this phone & I've seen it & used it & the photos it takes r scary:angre: .
el7ilwa i reall don't think girls have anything to worry about as there's no zoom in this phone.
Hmmmmm...
Zooming programs with filtering facilities and resolution correction?
Arabian Princess 20-04-03, 02:31 PM Il7ilwa ..
I dont think thats a problem as other members said, there are small digital cameras .. and if somone want to use them badly they could use them badly anyway they want.
el7ilwa 21-04-03, 10:21 PM Well my friend has one & take my photoes with out my permission, which make me sOoOoOo angry this is Y I hate them:angre: .
