African countries have nominated the Greater Jamahiriya Libyan African People to chair the Human Rights Commission at the so called United Nation on it's next session. At hearring this, the current American administration like its predicessors, have seemingly become restless as if with a wetted pant and are lobbying other member countries not to support the motion.

Why is it so, does any of you honorable members here have any idea what Americans fear is for ?

So Libya doesn't know the meaning of ' human rights ' if they don't who does then Seham ? And do you mind eleborate a bit on the ignorance and enlighten those of us who do not know ? I for one don't what 'human rights means apart from what I hear from sources of media from the Americans.

I'd asume according to your knowledge of Libyans want to learn that is why they are denied a chance ?

You started, Seham, supporting your views with accusing Libya on the Lockerbie case.

Do you have more information that the officials who have been probing into the case don't have ?

Lockerbie case is unique in terms of presentation of evidence implicating Greater Libya Jamahiryah. The presentation was too good to be genuine. And that is perhaps why the whole tale reached stalmet.

The dispute between Libya and others is dated way back before the Lockerbie scenario.

Very simple how was it estableshed in that rubble Libya was the culprit ?

Perhaps those behind the disappearance of Imam Mussa Sadr could very well tell the world what happened to the PanAm over the Lockerbie. If Libya had targeted that particular airline in that fashion then they are fools, otherwise somebody else is smarter to implicate them on that incident.

Anyway, the question was Libya didn't know anything about 'human rights' and to support your views the source you have quoted is not an authority over matters of human concern. Those guys are having a role of challenging governments actions. You probably have noted that even Oman is mentioned and that it has expanded on the sphere of capital punishment.

America too is mentioned as having been in a limbo of Gwantanamo. Could this be the reason why they, Americans, don't want to see Libya gets a chance to air its reservations on matters of 'human rights' ?

Why not give Libya a chance and then criticise it where its shortcomings arise ?

Im with DS on this one Im afraid. Besides, its simply a vote to chair the Human Rights Commission, not to run the UN.

After all, they are equal participants and should therefore be equally entitled to such a chance.
